Holiday shopping with a toddler doesn't have to be stressful. Try these tips: Go in the morning when she's less likely to be cranky. Give her regular breaks from the stroller or shopping cart to let off steam. Bring water and healthy snacks like nuts, raisins or granola bars to keep her energy up, and disposable wipes for cleaning hands. Tell her the store rules and enforce them. Remind her to use her soft "public" voice when she needs something.

Let It Snow!

As soon as it snows or you arrive in a snowy area for vacation, your toddler will want to be outside. Help keep him safe and toasty with sunscreen on exposed skin, layers of clothing made of wool or other materials (avoid cotton), warm socks, boots and a hat. Make sure to give him an extra pair of gloves or mittens in case his get wet. Pick a sledding hill free of large rocks and trees, and don’t let him shovel heavy loads of snow, which can strain his muscles. He may not realize when it’s time to come in, so check regularly to make sure his mittens are dry and his nose isn’t too red.
