Ponder the Pacifier

Whether or not to use pacifiers is an age-old debate, but the American Academy of Pediatrics gives it the thumbs up through the first year of life. Sucking is comforting, familiar and calming to babies and a pacifier can be the ideal way to provide contentment between feedings.

Juice Use

It seems like fruit juice and juice drinks would be healthy for your growing toddler, but did you know you can give him too much of a good thing? Fruit juice tastes good and is often packaged so it's easy to carry around, but the American Academy of Pediatrics says excess juice can contribute to dental caries and diarrhea. Toddlers one to six years old should be limited to four to six ounces per day as part of a meal or snack rather than sipping throughout the day.

Shoe Knew?

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, babies don't actually need to wear shoes until they start learning to walk. Going shoeless indoors allows your infant's feet to grow normally, helps them develop strength and lets her experiment with grasping with her toes. If you want to keep her feet warm or protect them from the elements, opt for soft-soled slippers, booties or nonskid socks.
