Bath Time Basics

Giving a newborn a bath can be a little scary for first-time moms. It gets easier with practice, but in the meantime, there are lots of tried and true tips that can help make the experience one you'll cherish.

Toddlers Can Make a Difference Too

It’s never too early to teach environmentally friendly habits. Even if your toddler doesn’t yet understand how his actions impact the earth, he can do his part by learning to put items in the recycle bin, turn off the light when he leaves a room, turn off the water while brushing his teeth and use both sides of the paper when drawing or writing. Make it fun for him to conserve by creating games, giving him little rewards and including him in projects such as a tree planting or a backyard garden.

Rash Relief

Diaper rash is an age-old problem blamed on everything from teething to diet. Pediatricians now believe it's usually caused by moisture, chafing, yeast or bacterial infections, prolonged contact with soiled diapers or allergies to diaper materials. To treat and prevent diaper rash, change diapers often, gently clean the area and let it air-dry, apply a thick layer of protective ointment and keep the diaper loose to prevent rubbing. Skip baby wipes to avoid further irritation and call your pediatrician if the rash gets worse.
